Dr. Heath Wilms is a New Zealand trained breast and general surgeon with a specialist focus on oncoplastic breast surgery. He is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care that balances the highest standards of cancer surgery with techniques that preserve form and function. 

Originally from New Plymouth, Dr. Wilms first studied finance at the University of Otago and worked in the field briefly before choosing to pursue medicine. He completed his medical degree at the University of Auckland, where he discovered a passion for surgery, and went on to train in a variety of centres across New Zealand. To further develop his expertise, Dr. Wilms undertook a fellowship at the Edinburgh Breast Unit, the largest and busiest in the United Kingdom. There, he gained extensive experience in advanced oncoplastic breast surgery, working alongside leading international specialists.

Alongside his private practice, Dr. Wilms also works in the public health system, reflecting his commitment to make surgical care widely accessible. In addition to breast surgery, he provides a wide range of general surgical care. His approach emphasises clear communication and shared decision-making, ensuring patients feel informed, supported, and confident in their treatment

Outside of medicine, Dr. Wilms enjoys spending time with his young family, and diving and running along Wellington’s south coast. He is proud to serve patients across the region, offering modern, evidence-based surgical care with professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail.
